Who we are
My Smart Living is a smart home companion app published by Mysmartliving Inc., 2222 S Sheridan Way #212, Mississauga, ON L5J 2M4, Canada. This policy explains what the app collects, where it goes, and how to get rid of it.
Questions about anything here: [email protected]
The short version
We collect the account you create and the things you make in the app. We do not run ads, analytics, or any tracking by outside companies. If you use the AI room designer, your room photo leaves your device and is processed by outside AI providers. That section is worth reading in full. You can delete a single room design from My Designs, or everything at once from Settings, immediately and without contacting us.
Information we collect
Your account
An account is required to use the app. Depending on how you sign up, we receive:
- Email and password. We store your email address. Your password is handled by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
- Sign in with Apple. Your name and email, or Apple’s private relay address if you chose to hide your email. We never receive your real address in that case.
- Sign in with Google. Your name, email address, and profile picture URL.
You may also add a display name and avatar. That is the entire contents of your profile record.
Content you create
Everything you make in the app is stored against your account:
- Accessories you mark as owned or add to your wishlist
- Course progress: which courses you have started and which chapters you have finished
- Floor plans: the walls and rooms you draw, room names, and wall heights
- Rooms and design plans: the room name and type, the goal and budget you enter, and the plan we generate
- Room designs, described in the next section
- Window covering projects, including any client name, address, and notes you record, plus window measurements and fabric selections
- Filter preferences in the accessory catalog
If you enter another person’s details into a window covering project, a client’s name or address for example, you are responsible for having their permission to do so. We store it on your behalf and do nothing else with it.
Room photos and AI designs
When you use the AI room designer:
- The photo you choose is resized on your device and uploaded to our storage, into a private folder that only your account can read. It is not publicly accessible and has no shareable link.
- The photo is sent to an AI provider that identifies the room type and suggests improvement opportunities.
- The photo is sent to an AI provider that edits images, which generates the redesigned version.
- Both the original photo and the generated image are kept against your account until you delete them. You can delete a single design, or the whole account.
The named providers, and the detail of what each receives, are in “AI processing in detail” below.
Please do not photograph people, documents, screens, or anything else you would not want processed by an outside service. The app has no way to detect what is in a photo before it is sent.
Community content
If you post a product review, question, or answer, the text you write is stored against your account and is visible to every other user of the app, along with your display name. Deleting your account removes it.
Apple Home import
If you import your Apple Home, your accessory list is read on your device. Your HomeKit setup, meaning home names, room structure, device states, and anything else HomeKit exposes, is never uploaded to us. Only the catalog matches you explicitly confirm are saved to your account, and those are saved as ordinary “owned” markers, indistinguishable from ones you tapped by hand.
A short summary of your last import (counts and a timestamp) is stored on your device and never sent anywhere.
Stored on your device only
- Your login session, held in the iOS Keychain
- Your appearance preference (Light, Dark, or System)
- The Apple Home import summary described above
None of this is transmitted to us, and all of it is removed when you delete the app.
What we don’t collect
We want to be specific, because “we value your privacy” means nothing on its own:
- No analytics. There is no analytics SDK in the app. We do not know which screens you open, how long you use it, or whether you use it at all.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers. The app never asks for tracking permission, because it has nothing to track you with.
- No tracking or fingerprinting by outside companies.
- No location data. The app never requests location access.
- No contacts, calendar, microphone, or health data.
- No crash or diagnostic reporting service.
The app requests three device permissions. Camera and photo library are used only to pick a room photo for the designer. Apple Home access is used only to read your accessory list, on your device, when you choose to import it. All three are optional, and the rest of the app works without them.
How your information is used
We use what we collect only to operate the app: to sign you in, to show you your own content, to generate the AI designs and plans you ask for, and to enforce daily limits on the AI features so they are not abused.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for advertising. We do not build profiles for marketing, and we do not send marketing email. The only email you receive from us is transactional, such as a password reset you asked for.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Your account, all your saved content, and your uploaded images | Database, authentication, file storage, and server functions |
| OpenRouter | Your room photo; the goal, budget, and room type for a design plan | Routes requests to the AI models below |
| Google (Gemini) | Your room photo | Identifies the room type and improvement opportunities, and generates the redesigned image |
| fal.ai | Your room photo | Hosts and runs the image model that produces the redesign |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Your design goal, budget, and room details, but no photo | Writes the design plan |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple credentials | Authentication |
| The credentials you use to sign in with Google | Authentication |
We otherwise disclose personal information only where the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of users.
Product images. The catalog displays product photographs served directly from manufacturer and retailer websites. When a product image loads, that company’s server sees a request from your device, including its IP address, in the same way it would if you visited their website. We do not control those companies and they are not acting on our behalf.
AI processing in detail
This section exists because the AI features are the only part of the app where your content leaves our systems.
What leaves the app
The room designer sends the photo you selected. The design planner sends the room type, your stated goal, your budget, and the catalog categories under consideration, but no photo.
What we keep
Both the original photo and the generated image stay in your private storage folder until you remove them. Open My Designs in the room designer, and deleting a design removes the photo you uploaded and the generated image together. Deleting your account removes all of them at once.
What the AI providers keep
This is the part we can promise least about, so we would rather be blunt than reassuring.
OpenRouter states that it does not use inputs or outputs for model training. It does route each request to an underlying model provider, and those providers set their own policies, so some may use inputs to train or improve a model. fal.ai states that it does not train on customer data, though it does hold the request and result payloads so they can be retrieved after a job finishes.
We do not control how long any provider keeps a request inside its own systems, and we cannot delete anything from them on your behalf. If that matters to you, do not upload a photo you would not want an outside company to process.
We cap these features at two room designs and twenty design plans per account each day, to control cost and abuse. The only thing we record for that is a daily count against your account.
Finally, treat what comes back as a suggestion rather than advice. The images are illustrative, and a suggested product may not suit your room, your budget, or the setup you already own.
Where your data is stored
Our database, file storage, and server functions run in the United States, in the AWS us-east-1 region. Our AI providers may process your data in the United States or elsewhere.
If you are in Canada, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, this means your personal information is transferred outside your country and may be accessible to authorities there under local law. By using the app, you consent to that transfer.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your information for as long as your account exists.
To delete everything, open Settings, tap Delete Account, and confirm. This immediately and permanently erases your profile, your owned and wishlisted accessories, your course progress, your floor plans, your rooms and design plans, your uploaded room photos and generated images, and your window covering projects.
To delete one room design rather than the account, open the room designer, go to My Designs, and delete the entry. The uploaded photo and the generated image both go with it.
There is no recovery, no grace period, and no need to contact us. Backups rotate on a normal operational schedule and residual copies fall out within 30 days.
Signing out is not deletion. It leaves everything in place for your next login.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Your login session is stored in the iOS Keychain rather than in general application storage. Database access is protected by row level security policies, so one account cannot read another’s data, and uploaded images are held in a private storage bucket with no public URLs.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as required by law.
Your rights
You can access and correct most of your information directly in the app, and you can delete all of it from Settings at any time.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request a copy of your personal information in a portable format, to object to or restrict certain processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. In Canada that is the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada; in the EEA and UK it is your national supervisory authority.
To exercise any right not available in the app, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
Children
My Smart Living is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Links to retailers
Deal listings link to external retailer websites. Some of these are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you buy something after following one. This costs you nothing and does not affect which products we list or how we describe them. Once you leave the app, the retailer’s own privacy policy applies instead of this one.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top and note the change in the app. Continuing to use My Smart Living after a change means you accept the revised policy.
